Here in 2023, there is a newly inaugurated second term governor that seems to be on the list of those that may run against Republican frontrunner Donald J. Trump.

Back in the late seventies and early eighties, California Governor Jerry Brown did this twice, He was elected to governor for his first term in 1974 and took office in Jan. 1975. After about a year, he apparently became bored and decided to run for U.S. President in 1976. He was gone, off campaigning around the country with little attention on his job. He came in third at the Democratic convention in delegate count.

In 1978, he ran for his second term as governor and took office in Jan. 1979. He again got bored and in 1980, ran again for U.S. President. This time he would withdraw during the Democratic Party primaries. The best part of his campaigning the second time was that during his second term as governor, Mike Curb (of Curb Records) a Republican was elected as Lieutenant Governor of California. That meant, by California law, that each time the governor left the state, the Lt. Governor became governor. Mike Curb was able to veto many of the radical leftist bills that came out of the California legislature. As to the Brown, each time Brown ran for president he was able to retain his office as governor.

Now it is becoming apparent that Governor DeSantis, of Florida, may want to run for U.S. President. However, according to the linked video by Laura Loomer, Florida has a ‘resign to run law’ where if the current term a Florida office holder overlaps the term of the office that person seeks, the Florida office holder must resign upon registration to run for the other office. As Governor DeSantis was just inaugurated to his second term as Florida Governor in Jan. 2023, it would seem like something Governor Brown tried to pull off years ago.
