Actually, the European Car of the Year is the Opel Ampera (the European version of the Chevy Volt). Of course, that announcement, this week at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, comes just days after GM announced that production of the Chevy Volt (US), Holden Volt (Australian), Opal Ampera (Europe) and the Vauxhall Ampera (UK), all built at the Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly plant in Michigan, would be halted for five weeks.

“On March 2, 2012, GM announced a five week shutdown due to slow sales. The suspension is scheduled to take place between March 16 and April 1, and will result in the temporary layoff of 1,300 workers.” – Wikipedia or any other source that says the same thing.
