Sterling, VA, by MikesView. A two candidate primary, non-Republicans voting in the Republican primary AND a loyalty oath? Kind of sounds like a soviet election, not a commonwealth or state party primary election.

This is the the kind of thing that might cause widespread apathy, enough to turn Virginia back to a ‘blue’ commonwealth.

In 2008, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson and Mitt Romeny all suspended their campaigns before the Virginia primary, leaving McCain, Huckabee and Paul, though the others were still on the ballot and received some votes.

Mysteriously, for 2012, with Romeny and Paul the only candidates on the Virginia primary ballot, Virginia Republican primary voters are denied the potential to vote for their candidate, whether the candidate has suspended their campaign or not.

Even liberal Maryland has Gingrich, Huntsman, Karger, Paul, Perry, Roemer, Romney and Santorum on their Republican ballot.

This Republican Party of Virginia debacle doesn’t sound ‘right’ to me.

Update: On January 17, 2012, the Republican Party of Virginia dropped it’s dumb ass loyalty oath requirement.
